Geomagnetic Storm on Thursday

The sun apparently farted for the first time in 4 years, sending a solar flare right at us. Its expected to disrupt communications systems on the earth and create aurora effects where those are normally visible when it hits the Earth's magnetic field.

Solar flares and the huge amount of radiation they send out are one big reason living and traveling outside a planet's magnetosphere is still really a fantasy for living creatures.
