New Bill limits Foster Children's shopping

This story is not just about one person being an ass..since I'm sure the bill past through several hands before being proposed. One has to wonder if this is some sort of money grab by the thift stores who see their donations and grants drying up. All I say its about time to hire a lobbyist for foster children rights.

Freedom of Speech?

Two interesting freedom of speech stories in the news today. First, we the tax payers get to pay for a man to spend a year in prison for making what was called "threats" against Queen Christine. Obviously the intent was to threaten though whether his statements were actually threats is up to the appeals courts.

In another interesting story, the idiot Koran burning priest was arrested for the possibility his upcoming rally would "breach the peace". I dont want to defend this guy but this arrest is absurd. I dont think we should be arresting a person for what other people might do if he held a protest. Shame on this judge for thrusting this guy back in the media spotlight.

13 year bugs rise on time

The 13 year cicades have been spotted rising from the ground in South Carolina. . It basically hibernates for 13 years then pops up long enough to breed and repeat the cycle.  The constant chirping you hearing pretty much anywhere in the south is the 1 yr hibernating versions. I understand the 13 year are much louder. This is a bug with long term plans.

Florida Republicans gut evironmental laws

As the heading says...apparently 100s of empty houses and unleased strip malls just isnt enough waste for some politicians.

One proposal, HB 613/SB 796, would allow South Florida governments discharging sewage into the Atlantic to continue doing so until 2023, extending a Dec. 31, 2018 deadline by five years. The bill has already passed the House and is in its final committee stop in the Senate.
Another, HB 13/SB 1698, repeals a measure passed last year by former state Sen. Lee Constantine, R-Altamonte Springs, that required inspections of septic tanks in an effort to protect the state's endangered springs and lakes. This has also passed the House and has one more committee stop in the Senate.

Seriously ??! Someone argued in favor and sponsored dumping waste into the ocean?

Double Standard?

Appropriate for passover i suppose (given the whole angel of death killing helpless children), the US army apparently has been murdering random people in Afghanistan, but the story hasnt been touched by the media. Is this an example of pro-Obama, anti bush bias?

Good teacher

Figured I should post a positive story about teachers since I'm always ragging on them. This guy has hero status in my book.

Dog bails out Nic Cage

Via TMZ, apparently its Beth to the rescue!

Here is a well done news peice about Dog's fame and early years

Woman arrested for asking cop for ID

The police are just a jobs program for highschool jocks and Jr. college grads. Here is yet another story of cops forgetting we dont live in North Korea. Keep in mind its not the moron cop who pays the settlement - its the taxpayer.

The money in justice

Stories like this one are a reminder to all that the police, FBI, and government persecutors do not work for the peoples justice but for their political bosses. These attacks on online gambling are about protecting the casinos, the tax revenue they generate and things like Powerball and Lotty, which government controls. Its about maintaining a government momopoly on what I see (gambling is) as a tax on the stupid.

Recall this story which shows the destructive lengths government will go to protect its cash cow.

Old stomping grounds

I always felt uncomfortable with the distance between Singer Island and the Bahamas. Always looked out to see the small not so nice boats and felt something fishy was going on there. Plus the beach was buzzed 3 time a day by DHS helicopter.

Kindergardener suspended for crying in class

Via Fark, this story takes the cake for worst teacher/principle of the year. Course no one will be fired for such blatant stupidity not to mention damage to the child. The district will likely slide the family a nice large check care of the taxpayers.

Sugar

Here is a really informative article about what your body does with sugar(s) and why they are bad for you.

Long story short - everything you eat gets converted to sugar. If you intake too much too fast you body send the sugar through the liver and converted to fat rather than dispersed throughout he body for energy. Seems to support the notion that sugary things even in small amounts will make you fat as will eating large portions of anything. The secret to long living is in small portions though one high sugary drink or sauce mixed said small healthy portion will turn the whole meal to fat.

How much is 1 trillion ?

War costs not addressed

So no shock Obama didnt touch the costs of Defense spending in his speech. Though he did say "Americans all want a strong defense" which I totally disagree with. He should ask the Tennessee National Guard, who ship out today for Afghanistan, whether overseas duty defending corrupt drug cartels is what they had in mind when they signed up to be part of that "strong defense".

The fact is that this speech was 100% BS. Half of it was promises about budget changes in 2021 or past the 4 years he will be in office (budgets are regularly set in 10 year increments, 12 would be chosen line it up with elections), assuming he makes it past 2012. The other half was promises congress would never pass, like mandatory taxation if budget goals arnt met. Nice idea that will never make it to the floor and prob isnt constitutional.

The last civil war veteran died in 1956. Before my time but my parents generation certainly could have met him. 1861 isnt that long ago. Just something to think about.

Obama's budget speech 2morrow

Wednesday Obama is going to address the Nation and lay out how he plans on dealing with our budget crisis. Hopefully it will be less vapid then his Libya speech.

He should start out with "ya..we really should have done this when the democrats had control of both houses." Oops. Now I already said I wont vote for him again but just for giggles this is what I want to hear Obama say ::

""I am ordering the armed forces to completely withdraw from Iraq, Afganistan, and Europe. The GI's in Japan and Korea can stay due to the Nuclear Crisis. And I mean a withdraw today. Not in 3 years. Not right before the next election. Now. Today."

The government nearly shut down over 40 billion dollars. Thats chump change. Our troops in Afghanistan costs 10 billion dollars EVERY WEEK. There is absolutely no hope that place is going to get any better without complete takeover which we are not willing to do. So lets leave. Nothing else can really be accomplished. Same with Iraq. If we are not going to take over the place, get back our investment and clean up the culture there, then we need to be done. Now Today. There is nothing less valuable then these wars to cut out of the budget. Americans shouldnt have to lose their healthcare and social security for this stupid mistake.

Obama was elected to change course in Iraq and Afghanistan and he didnt do it. He tripled the number of troops instead of withdrawing them. It was the biggest campaign lie ever. This is his chance for a mea culpa. If he doesnt get us out of these wars now then he twice the liar and NO ONE SHOULD VOTE FOR HIM.

Reaching 7 and beyond

The nuclear disaster in Japan is now quantified as a "7", scaling it equal to Chernobyl. As the scale only goes to 7 it may actually be worse. Only a count of the extra arms and eyeballs Korean schoolchildren grow will tell.

And its going to get worse not better. By this time in the disaster Chernobyl was capped by a concrete dome theoretically keeping any future emissions contained. Since there are 3 melted cores vs 1 (and a hot storage pond) there is just too much radioactivity to build a new containment structure. The Japanese government is stuck now..maybe for decades poring water into those cores to cool them until they are finally cool enough to approach. If something stops that very ad libed cooling process the disaster could start all over again.

17 storm Governor's office in Olympia

Gregoire has completely lost her mandate. Who is going to step up and negotiate her exit before violent protest erupt.

The luxury of sitting around and talking about problems has past. Time for our community leaders to act.

Fruit that makes you GLOW

Apparently the potasium in banana's is radioactive! who wouldve thunk it?

Obama growing spending

He may have inherited problems - but has he done anything about them? No change to be found here either

Well for one, the size of government has gotten out of hand: More people now work for the government - 22.5 million Americans - than work in the manufacturing, farming, fishing, forestry, mining and utilities industries combined.

In addition he put 100k troops in Afghanistan, has spend 550 million on Libya for no good reason, and dont forget he also gave tax breaks to billionaires. Dont elect this guy AGAIN

Outbred

I'm not sure I beleive this study's findings - since most kids you ask often confuse family county of origin and race. But it seems like natural selection to me. The people who prioritize their personal financial and social success are busier and thus have less time for children. The people without that particular work ethic have more time on their hands to have and raise children. Eventually the successful are out bred by those who put family and the future first.

Obama has failed the Environment

We have forgotten about the gulf oil spill. Transocean executives all got huge bonuses and 2010 was declared as their best year in safety. Word is the government is allowing 6 new permits to drill in the gulf. And we are already facing a new spill that no one is talking about. There still are so many questions left unanswered. What has Changed, Obama?

Cell Phone double feature

Via Fark two interesting stories about Cell phones :

First cell phone call made 38 years ago today

More people in India have used a cellphone than a toilet

1000s of unidentified bodies

Apparently (after how many years?) there are over 1000 bodies killed in the 911 attacks still without a name. And instead of burying them with respect our government has decided to put them on display as a museum piece.

That photo is still traumatizing.

If you dont use it...you lose it

Regardless of the fact that he pretty much killed Hope and provided no Change, Obama announced today that he will run again. And in doing so he kicked the dead mule of public financing by announcing he wants to spend 1 biilllion dollars on his reelection campaign. By setting the bar so high as to break the previous campain cost record he is virtually assuring that no other candidate will separate themselves from special interest money and accept public financing.

This is the 2nd time he is rejecting public financing. And as the saying goes - if you dont use it you lose it.

If you are one of these voters who are tired of elections being about who is richer DONT vote for Obama.

A "Hop" review

Short story : Cute and worth the ticket but falls short of its potential on several fronts. Young kids prob wont enjoy it as much as tweens and adults.

Quotes

At a certain stage the realization strikes through that one must either live outside of society's bonds or die of absolute boredom. There is no future or freedom in the circumscribed life and the only other life is complete rejection of the rules. There is no longer room for the soldier of fortune or the gentleman adventurer who can live both within and outside of society. Today it is all or nothing. To save my own sanity I chose the nothing.
