Next time we are in Az

Gotta try this place!

Tokimeki : What Japanese schoolgirls are playing

Every once in a while the videogame developers in America take a shot at bringing the female demographic. As far as I know these efforts have been less than successful. In Japan however, games aimed at girls are much more successful though I would argue in Japan the genders are not as divided as here in Ameica. Anyhoo. I came across this great forum post poking fun at popular girls game : Tokimeki. Its played on the hand held Nintendo DS and the goal is to woo highschool boyfriends by "touching" them in the right way with your stylus pen. And not just highschool boys but your teachers, principle and little brothers friends are fair game too..Ya. All 4 pages so far is a great read and I find I am aching to find who Balls Mahogany ends up kissing.

Pot soda

So..there has certainly been a wave of legal forms of narcotics hitting the market of late. Here is another - pot based soda with added THC, the chemical that causes the high in pot. I'm not a drug "rights" person..but I have seen plenty of evidence that the "war against drugs" isnt working and is probably just another system designed to make government contractors and military types rich while causing enormous damage to communities vulnerable to the drug traffickers.

The government needs to legalize and tax narcotics and stop maintaining the black market economy and the criminal culture surrounding it.

Fun facts about the new Sandy Bridge processors

I posted a story a few weeks ago that talked about the enormous size on the universe. On the other end of that, here is a descriptions of all the billions of tiny things happening in your computer's CPU.

Lap top from the top down

I've been researching a replacement for my old HP laptop and I came across this article . Long story short - only IBM, Acer, Toshiba, Twinhead and Apple actually make their own laptops. The big names (HP, Dell ect) are made by a company called Compal and everyone else is made by a company called Clevo.

New legal high : Bath Salts

Those sneaky drug dealers are at it again. First they package the chemical responsible for the high in pot as a legal incense. Now they have done it with bath salts

US dropped 4 nuclear bombs on Spain

Via the BBC and Time magazine, a story  that I hadnt heard before. Apparently we've had a few "oops" moments with our nuclear arsenal. Makes you wonder how many other oops's happened with the nuclear armed countries in the world.

It takes 10 thousand years for the radiation to "leave" exposed objects. Thats like the entire known history of human civilization.

Florida to grade parents

All I can say is its about time! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! We need more - say it with me now - accountability in EVERY facet of our society. Lawyers, police, politicians, teachers and yes parents need to be evaluated in some meaningful fashion. Thats how people get better at what they do and we recognize the people who should be doing something else.

It doesnt sound like this law has many teeth but it will help move foward the merit pay system for teachers, allowing for some evidence that the teacher isnt totally to blame for the kids bad grades. Which should help more teachers embrace merit pay.

College money machine

There is another report out showing that college doesnt benefit the majority of attendees. Higher education has been transformed from a system that refines a professional to a parasitic money maker.
Students rarely walk out with more than they came in with; they are indenting themselves into the 100s of thousands so some other person, who hasnt worked in the field in years, if ever, can proclaim them worthy.College was conceived during a time when "advanced" knowledge was not nearly as available as it is today. Then it was pervert into a social status bar and now its just a money making treadmill/hoop to jump through. College should be about guided independent study on the information that is still rare in order to refine a professional skill. Not a revisit of 11th and 12th grade. If you need more highschool - Junior college, with its low cost, is the place for you. Or trade school, where you will learn practical skills. And if you need more time to find yourself or mature there are plenty of service programs and spiritual missions out there that dont charge 60k a year.

Another school lawsuit

When I had kids inthe public school system the War in Iraq was going on and teachers didnt let kids play "soldier" at recess. I felt this was an inappropriate case of teachers letting their politics in the schools. Here is  a similar story where school officials are making school activites about their interests and "politics". Since the child missed a day of school I hope the family sues the school district. The Seahawks are a private business and schools shouldn't be supporting one business over another.
(I guess Tacoma middle schools have uniforms ?)

Worst food ever ?

Spotted this at the local Kroger market. Its a pie crust  filled with molasses and sugar crystals that have been dyed different colors with food coloring. Is that not the most digesting thing you've ever heard of ? And isnt Mardi Gras like more than a month away? I guess the sugar will be nicely aged by the time the holiday rolls around....yumm

Analytics

I've got an interesting core audience! Here are the website stats from last year!

Each with over 10 million "suns"

Here is a mind blowing science story from BBC. The Plank telescope has captured pictures of the largest galaxies ever seen. Think about this for a moment..we are one planet, third rock of many circling one star, one of an estimated 200 million stars, a clump aka galaxy of stars we call the Milky way. And ours is pretty small. For example the closest galaxy to us, Andromeda, has an estimated 1.5 TRILLION suns.

Scientists have recently charted some of the largest Galaxies, most so large that crossing them, even at the speed of Light, would take 100s of thousands of our years. There are an estimated 170 billion galaxies out there. The number of suns gets too large to write without notation and the number of earths is unfathomable. Why havnt we seen life ? Not because its rare but because the universe is frikken huge!!! Even with the best estimates in the Drake equation, dividing civilization equally amounts the starts would put the closest civilization to us 1500 light years away. 1500 years to send a message at the speed of light and another 1500 years to receive a reply assuming the reply was instantaneous. Thats what you call snail mail.

Rift is Ashron's Call 2 meets Warhammer Online and it is doomed to follow in their footsteps on the path of mediocrity.

The Benoliel's shot Gabrielle Giffords

/rant on

A mentally ill 22yo likely being manipulated by an older mentor pulled the trigger, but the Benoliel's and 1000s of other stable, successful individuals who have turned away from society actually shot the congresswomen

Quotes

At a certain stage the realization strikes through that one must either live outside of society's bonds or die of absolute boredom. There is no future or freedom in the circumscribed life and the only other life is complete rejection of the rules. There is no longer room for the soldier of fortune or the gentleman adventurer who can live both within and outside of society. Today it is all or nothing. To save my own sanity I chose the nothing.
