American "police"

This story "feels" just like so many I've heard while working with family and law enforcement. The "crime" is often something small but just being processed and becoming involved with the "system" completely destroys peoples lives.

His mother says she begged police to let her drive her son to the police department and to let her stay with him through the booking process but they refused. At first school officials did not want to press charges, but changed their mind when police called them later that night."Tim" is on probation and if he completes that successfully, the criminal charges will be dropped. But his parents say it has cost them thousands of dollars so far.

Quotes

At a certain stage the realization strikes through that one must either live outside of society's bonds or die of absolute boredom. There is no future or freedom in the circumscribed life and the only other life is complete rejection of the rules. There is no longer room for the soldier of fortune or the gentleman adventurer who can live both within and outside of society. Today it is all or nothing. To save my own sanity I chose the nothing.
