Steve Jobs & Thomas Edison

I was reading this article tribute to Steve Jobs and I noticed the author made the following connection about the quality of genius :

Both had less formal schooling than most of their respective peers. Both possessed the ability to visualize projects on a grand scale. Both followed an inner voice when making decisions. And both had terrific tempers that could make their employees quake.

I dont mean to toot my own horn but does that sound like anyone you might know? I would add this quote from Babylon 5 :

Greatness is never appreciated in youth, called pride in midlife, dismissed in old age and reconsidered in death. Because we cannot tolerate greatness in our midst we do all that we can to destroy it.

Btw like Bill Gates, and Christopher Columbus, etc etc Edison didnt come up with his ideas he just borrowed them from other people and marketed them better. In Edison case he was just a businessman who stole from an employee named Nikola Tesla. I understand the Tampa Bay Lighting are unveiling there new Tesla coil at an upcoming game

Rap about making cartoons

Phineas and Ferb is a seriously popular show on Disney and while unoriginal in that it borrows many of its characters and concepts from other shows it does bare one unique aspect in that it contains a musical short in every episode. Its one thing to write a cartoon script for every episode, its quite another level of creativity to throw in an original song in each episode.

One armed 11yo takes down first deer

There has been several stories in the news about kids doing bad things with guns. Here is one good story about about a gun being a positive force in a child's life (albiet not for the deer)

Police deliberately shoot at protesters

The police have no business gassing people exerting their right of free speech and assembly. At the same time the "protesters" look like mostly kids out to cause trouble and media types.

Food trucks abound!

Apparently a whole culture of gourmet food truck eat'n has sprung up of late. Both In the Pacific Northwest and in Florida. I'm proud to say while living in Lynnwood we tried out several of the taco trucks in the area in an effort to show the foster kids more diversity in food beyond and Mac & Cheese, Pizza and sushi.  Guess I gotta get on the band wagon here in Florida. wonder if the model could be used to make mobile social service providers.

Where our education priorities are

In our broken, noncompetitive education system these days school employees are usually more at fault than politicians. One wonder what the ratio of gay teens to highschool dropout is at this school. We need to focus a little less on social engineering and a little more on making sure kids can read, write and count.

Army paid 7 million for one day of training

I'm all for boosting the strength and role of fathers in the family..but this is absurd. I'm sure Patty Murry has her hands all over this Seattle based Halliburton-esk effort.

That’s right — all of this cash is for training. Loving Families Loving Children Inc. won’t design or produce any special software to keep moms, wives and kids in touch with their SEALs, nor any fancy platforms to run it on. It’ll instead design “resiliency assessment analysis, workshops and training programs.” The crunchy-sounding company gets $9,380,746 for designing such courses through 2012, with an option to extend till 2016.

Obama puts boots on the ground in Africa

Meanwhile, if meddling in Libya wasnt enough..US taxpayers now get to foot the bill for 100 ground troops Obama is sending in to run some warlord's army. Change my ass. Here is more info about the Africa troop deployment. I'm all for saving people from rape and murder and the like..but supporting one guerrilla warlord over another isnt going to accomplish anything. Has it worked in ANY of the 100s of countries we've meddled with thus far?

Iranian assassination plot an FBI hoax ?

The Uk's guardian Newspaper raises concern over several unanswered questions while a popular Veterans magazine claims to have proof that the farcical plot was really Isreal's attempts to start a war between arab nations

A profoundly unjust world

The greatest disservice parents could do is cripple their children with "values". This world is a profoundly unjust place, as stories like this clearly show.

People who "do good" or are "innocent" are not any less likely to get screwed by life, and are perhaps worse off without a toolbelt of survivor skills such as being able to lie or shove women and children out of the way to get to the exit.

Boycott Columbus day

Stop celebrating false history created by the King of Liars, Richard Nixon! Teach kids the truth (which is more interesting) not the skin color biased psuedo-story. Columbus bought his maps and knowledge of the "new world" from Chinese sailors who had circumnavigated the globe in 3 fleets during the 1420's. He didnt actually discover anything and never made it to "America"..though he did visit Cuba and Haiti.

The former face of Evil

Slate.com ask who was the go-to figurehead for evil before Hitler. Kool story. BTW, now that Usama is toast the seat is vacant. Any takers?

Volcanos seen from Space

Via Wired - some nifty pics of our planet spilling its guts out as seen from orbit of our shiny blue marble. I got to walk on cooling lava that recently covered the highway our car was traveling on in Hawaii.

Paper claims China planning to invade Vietnam

The official Chinese Communist Party newspaper called this week for China to attack Vietnam and the Philippines and lay claim to oil rigs in the South China Sea. Oh joy.

Monkey uses thoughts to move artificial arm

The next step in Cybernetics has arrived. Using a computer chip implanted in its brain, a monkey was able to successful control a virtual arm. Apparently the chip also translates a sense of texture back to the money as well. Very Kool.

Quotes

At a certain stage the realization strikes through that one must either live outside of society's bonds or die of absolute boredom. There is no future or freedom in the circumscribed life and the only other life is complete rejection of the rules. There is no longer room for the soldier of fortune or the gentleman adventurer who can live both within and outside of society. Today it is all or nothing. To save my own sanity I chose the nothing.
